STORAGE TIPS
PERFECTING THE ART OF STORAGE
Below are the most common items stored and handy tips on ensuring your items remain in perfect condition for little effort.
GENERAL TIPS
We suggest that when you are storing any personal or business items that all of your boxes have been properly labeled and taped together to ensure the items inside are protected from dust and easy to find when you visit your unit.
We suggest not storing cardboard boxes directly on the ground to protect from any damage or exposure to moisture.
It is a good idea to put a moisture absorber in your storage unit as a preventative.
FURNITURE TIPS
When you are storing furniture, ensure that the items have been decently cleaned and all lounges have had their cushions removed and the bottom of the lounge is checked. Empty the contents of any wardrobes and any items of clothing should be stored in strong boxes.
We suggest wrapping your furniture such as lounges, mattresses and dinning chairs in a cover/protector.
WHITE GOODS
Ensure these kind of items have been properly cleaned before placing them into your storage unit. If you have the box that the item initially came in it’s a good idea to pack it back into that box, or else you can visit our box shop for an appropriate sized box for your items.
GLASSWARE & CROCKERY
It is important to be careful with these kind of items when you are storing them as they are the most prone to breakage. Ensure boxes with these kind of items have been very clearly labeled as fragile and use bubble wrap and newspaper to fill in any gaps between items.
TELEVISION, STEREOS & VIDEOS
It is important to keep in mind electrical equipment can be very sensitive and easily damaged by slight knocks and drops. It is ideal to re-pack these items into their original packaging, however, if you don’t have access to this, use bubble wrap to keep the items safe.
COMPUTERS & ELECTRONICS
Take care to package fragile items like computers and electronics carefully. It is very important to store them in a secure, sealed box and ensure to use bubble wrap to keep them protected from any damage or exposure to moisture.
VEHICLES & OTHER MACHINERY
It is important to ensure these items have been fully cleaned before being taken to the self storage facility. It is also important to ensure that the brakes are on and the fuel has been removed to avoid any damage to the engine.
METALLIC GOODS
Ensure these items have been properly cleaned and are dry before storing. When in storage, a deodoriser placed inside these items can ensure they don’t smell when you visit your unit.
SCREENS, PAINTINGS & WINDOWS
It is important to be very careful with these kind of items, using bubble wrap and packing tape to secure any glass. You should also ensure any paintings have been fully covered with wrap to keep the paint looking fresh.
